Ministerial Intern
“In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.” – Phil Collins, Musician
We are pleased to announce we will have a ministerial intern starting with us in September. His name is Joel Courtney. He currently lives in Las Cruces, NM with his wife, Rachel and their two dogs. They will move to the Wenatchee area and live here for the two years Joel will be the intern. Joel is a Meadville Lombard Seminary student, who will start his second year in September as well. The first year, Joel focused on Community Studies and worked at a local domestic abuse shelter. Over the summer, he will complete his Clinical Pastoral Education, which is the intensive training ministers receive for pastoral care.
This is a new opportunity for us as a congregation and for our minister. We will help Joel learn what it means to be a minister and give him opportunities to deepen the understanding of his ministerial call. We also will be on the receiving end of the lessons and wisdom he has to impart to us.
For the two years Joel will be with us, he will be at the congregation from Sept through Jun, with a break in January for classes. The first year, he will spend most of his time learning about the congregation, going to meetings, participating in worship, and building relationships. He will preach every quarter during the first year. In the second year, he will step up into more of a leadership role and have a specific project he will work on, which will be identified towards the end of the first year. He will increase his preaching to once a month.
